The first thing that comes to mind after watching the movie Sicko is that living in America really isn’t has great as I thought it was. It actually made me want to move to another country sometime in my life. When I get older, like into my 40’s, if the U.S. still does not have free healthcare I really would consider moving to Great Britain or France even. I would need to learn how to speak French if I moved to France though.
I think one of the things in the movie that really made me think was the letters that patients were getting listing different reasons why they weren’t going to be covered. For example, the lady who had a brain tumor and her insurance company wouldn’t cover it because they said it wasn’t life threatening. I could just imagine that getting that letter in the mail must have been so devastating to her. That was probably her last hope to live, she must have known that they were wrong to say it wasn’t life threatening. It’s almost like getting a letter telling you you’re going to dye, like sorry there’s no hope for you.
After Mr. Moore went to those other countries and started asking everyone about their free medical care it just made it seem so unnecessary for some people in America to be suffering. When he asked people about it they would laugh at him for even asking how they pay, but to me it really wasn’t funny at all. -u17064833
